I don’t think any of the folks involved realized that they were about star in one of the greatest pie contest documentaries of all time. credits: co-producer, editor https://davebonawits.com/Jacqueline-Novak-on-Film Wed, 14 Oct 2026 15:59:58 +0000 dave bonawits https://davebonawits.com/Jacqueline-Novak-on-Film Jacqueline Novak on Film Substack Shot on 16mm with wind-up Bolex cameras in the backyard of a dazzlingly funny comedian, Jacqueline Novak on Film captures a stream-of-consciousness performance that’s electric, revealing, and honest. We shot for about two hours and came away with roughly 24 minutes of footage. My job was to cut it into one cohesive four minute portrait. It was a thrilling challenge.  credits: co-producer, camera operator, editor https://davebonawits.com/Lisa-Hanawalt-on-Film Wed, 14 Oct 2026 16:17:36 +0000 dave bonawits https://davebonawits.com/Lisa-Hanawalt-on-Film Lisa Hanawalt on Film Substack Lisa Hanawalt is a comic artist, illustrator, TV creator, musician, and all-around cool person. She welcomed us into her home (and then her horse’s home) to give us a preview of her forthcoming book. This was shot on Bolex 16mm wind up film cameras. The constraints of this medium pairs well with her “fragmented memoir” book.   credits: co-producer, camera operator, editor https://davebonawits.com/On-Cinema-Live-copy Fri, 20 Mar 2026 15:51:57 +0000 dave bonawits https://davebonawits.com/On-Cinema-Live-copy On Cinema Live Adult SwimA live production of On Cinema at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta, Ga. This time it was recorded and broadcast on adult swim.com. credits: camera operator, editor https://davebonawits.com/Wiseau Sat, 12 Dec 2020 04:55:58 +0000 dave bonawits https://davebonawits.com/Wiseau Driving Tommy Wiseau to the Plaza Theatre Short Documentary This is, by my own skewed estimation, the best interview with Tommy Wiseau on youtube. credits: camera operator, editor https://davebonawits.com/Open-Tab Thu, 22 Oct 2026 02:53:37 +0000 dave bonawits https://davebonawits.com/Open-Tab Open TabPodcast - Substack Substack’s flagship podcast, Open Tab, is a show filmed in a bar of the guest’s choosing. This presented various production challenges, but my main goal was to light and shoot it to make it feel like we were in that specific space, and not some studio designed to look like a bar. Due to this, it has an energy to it that I think is missing from most podcast productions.  credits: director of photography (two pilot episodes), editor (all episodes)Watch all the episodes on Substack https://davebonawits.com/Fishcenter Fri, 11 Dec 2020 22:16:15 +0000 dave bonawits https://davebonawits.com/Fishcenter FishCenter LiveLivestream/Podcast - Adult Swim A daily sport, talk and game show centered around the Adult Swim office fish tank. The fish compete and callers play games to award points to their favorite fish. Somehow, we made over 1400 episodes. I know a lot about tropical fish now. credits: co-host, cinematographer, audio engineer, video content producerWikipedia
